皆さま、こんにちは。

通常メール案内よりご参加の皆様、ありがとうございます。

しかし、突然の不具合、お詫び申し上げます。

長年使用してきたHOT MAILに突然ロックがかかり、主催者がアクセスできなくなり、皆様へのご案内を送ることが出来なくなりました。

さて、２０２５年７月のMIFA Chat Salon開催のご案内です。

参加希望の方は、直接会場までお越しください。

毎月ご案内しておりました CHALLENGE TABLEは、今月は都合により設定することが出来ませんので、予めご了承くださいませ。

今回の事態によりまして、CHAT SALONの開催案内は

Theme: “The differences of the Education Systems between Germany and

Japan”

(3) The Topic: Let’s enjoy fun debating.

各セッションで二つの異なるテーマをセットします。

皆さんにはどちらかのテーマを支持していただきますので、

その良い所を説明してください。

自分の本当の意見とは異なっている可能性もあります。

支持者に成りきり、Debate を楽しみましょう。

① 1st Session: “ Online media and Hardcopy media”

例えば、ウェブ新聞と紙の新聞、それぞれ良い所があります。

それを論理的に考えて意見にしてみましょう。

② 2nd Session: “Online Shopping and In-store Shopping”

今や ネットでの買い物が主流になりつつありますが、実店舗での買い物も

楽しいですよね！

(4) 各テーブルにコーディネーターを設けます。参加者の皆様は、English onlyの

環境で楽しく賑やかに会話を楽しみましょう。政治、宗教等の話題はheat u

元、自粛しましょう。

開催報告

6月のChat Salonは、7日にログハウスで開催されました。イベントの前半では、日本文化のユニークさについて英語で語り合うセッションが行われ、各グループで日本の文化について幅広い話題が取り上げられました。後半では、木山さんによる茶道のプレゼンテーションが行われ、抹茶や茶道の作法、会場の飾りつけなどについて、わかりやすく説明していただきました。プレゼン後には、実際にお茶と和菓子をいただきながら茶道を体験する時間もあり、参加者全員がその奥深さと美しさに触れることができました。今月も学びの多い、印象深いイベントとなりました。

This month, on June 7, enthusiastic participants, as always, assembled at the Log House to take part in the Chat Salon. This event was an engaging fusion of English language practice and an introduction to Japanese culture.
                   
The event commenced around 10 A.M. with Fujimori-San welcoming all the participants. He quickly went over the schedule and then briefly shared his thoughts on how we can discuss and explore our cultures without making any unnecessary comparisons. I think this idea is meaningful and it certainly tests our communication skills. 

Around 10:10, all the participants formed small groups to discuss and explore the uniqueness of Japanese culture. Everyone was excited to share their thoughts. One group explored whether Japan has always been culturally homogeneous. It was learnt that due to travel restrictions in the distant past, there were regional differences in culture. Other groups touched on the unique aspects of Japanese culture such as Shigin, Kabuki, and Sumo wrestling. The chat session concluded around 10:40.

 

It was time for much-awaited presentation on the traditional tea ceremony by Kiyama-San. She explained how Buddhist monks introduced matcha tea to Japan and it became a symbol of harmony and respect. She explained that the mutual bowing between the guest and host not only reflects respect but also honors the artists who made the ceramics used in the ceremony. She also emphasized the significance of ambience, flowers, hanging scrolls, and the proper etiquette to bow and hold cups while serving tea. Although the presentation was detailed, I noticed that Kiyama-San had more to share. However, due to time constraints, the presentation concluded around 11:35. Thank you, Kiyama-San for the insightful and engaging presentation!

After the presentation, it was finally time to experience the tea ceremony. The guests were served tea and sweets while following the tea ceremony etiquette. It was a treat to watch both guests and hosts follow the rituals gracefully. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience

 

 

 

 

Finally, Kiyama-San welcomed a few questions. She explained, in the beginning, only men could serve as hosts, but over time, women also entered this role. She also added how the practice of hosting tea ceremonies has made her resilient over the years. 

Overall, the event was an enriching and memorable experience

今月6月7日、いつものように熱心な参加者がログハウスに集まり、チャットサロンに参加しました。

このイベントは、英語の練習と日本文化の紹介が融合した魅力的なものでした。

                       

午前10時頃から始まり、藤森さんが参加者全員を歓迎しました。

彼はすぐにスケジュールを確認し、不必要な比較をせずに自分たちの文化に

ついて話し合い、探求する方法についての考えを簡単に共有しました。

この考え方は意味があり、確かに私たちのコミュニケーション能力が

試されると思います。

 

10時10分頃、参加者全員が小グループを作り、日本文化の独自性について

議論し、探求しました。誰もが興奮して自分の考えを共有しました。

あるグループは、日本が常に文化的に均質であったかどうかを調査しました。

遠い昔の旅行制限により、文化には地域差があることが分かった。

他のグループは、紫銀、歌舞伎、相撲など、日本文化のユニークな側面に

触れました。チャットセッションは10時40分頃に終了しました。

 

木山さんによる伝統的な茶道についての待望のプレゼンテーションの時間でした。

彼女は、仏教の僧侶が抹茶を日本に紹介し、それが調和と尊敬の象徴になった

経緯を説明しました。彼女は、ゲストとホストの間の相互のお辞儀は、

敬意を反映するだけでなく、式典で使用される陶器を作ったアーティストを

称えるものでもあると説明しました。彼女はまた、雰囲気、花、掛け軸、

そしてお茶を出すときにお辞儀をしてカップを持つための適切なエチケット

の重要性を強調しました。プレゼンテーションは詳細でしたが、木山さんが

もっと共有したいことがあることに気づきました。しかし、時間の都合上、

11時35分頃に発表が終了しました。木山さん、洞察力に富んだ魅力的な

プレゼンテーションをありがとうございました!

 

プレゼンテーションの後、いよいよ茶道体験の時間となりました。

お茶やお菓子をいただきながら、茶道のマナーを守りました。ゲストと

ホストの両方が優雅に儀式に従うのを見るのは楽しみでした。

誰もがその経験を徹底的に楽しんだ。

 

最後に、木山さんからいくつかの質問が寄せられました。彼女は、最初は

男性だけがホストを務めることができたが、時間が経つにつれて女性も

この役割を担うようになったと説明した。彼女はまた、茶道を主催する

習慣が長年にわたって彼女を回復力にしてきたことを付け加えました。

 

全体として、このイベントは豊かで思い出に残る体験でした。

5月のChat Salonでは、前田さんによるショートスピーチ "My Jakarta Night(mare)" が発表されました。前田さんのプレゼンテーションのスタイルと、ジャカルタでの個人的な体験談は、参加者全員に強い印象を与えました。
ブレイクアウトセッションの1回目は "Things I am curious about recently"、2回目は "My favorite neighborhood restaurant/shop." というテーマで行われました。皆さん、それぞれ話したいことがたくさんあったのではないかと思います。

It was a drizzly morning on May 10, and English language enthusiasts still made their way to the Log House to enjoy the Chat Salon.

Shoji-san, serving as the MC for the day, kicked off the event at 10 a.m. He briefly reviewed the different segments of the session before handing over the stage to Maeda-san, the presenter.

Maeda-san commenced his presentation titled “Jakarta Nightmare”, with an interesting warm-up quiz focused on the geographical locations of ASEAN countries. Then, he began narrating his life story, taking us back around 45 years, when he was residing in Jakarta with his wife and two local maids. He described how, amidst political unrest in Jakarta, they went through a horrific experience one night. An unruly mob of angry young men carrying large sticks and bats showed up at the gate of their property. He was overwhelmed by disturbing thoughts that they might harm him and his family. However, it turned out that the mob was after a thief who was hiding in a kennel on his premises. He concluded his presentation by saying that our fears are largely based on our assumptions. He then welcomed questions from the audience.

I observed that Maeda-san has a remarkable flair for storytelling. Though it was an extremely disturbing incident, it was incredibly interesting and engaging.

Subsequently, all the participants split into groups for the first breakout session.  As per the planned format, each member spoke on the topic, “Things I am curious about recently”, while others shared comments and asked questions. This was followed by a five-minute break.

Around 11: 15, the second breakout session began, during which participants talked about their favorite neighborhood restaurants/shops. One participant spoke about a newly opened Finnish restaurant in Moriya City.

At around 11:45, Shoji-san signaled the conclusion of the chat session with an announcement that the next Chat Salon is scheduled for June 7.  Kiyana-san provided additional details about the event, which will focus on Japanese culture. Many participants signed up to attend the traditional tea ceremony.

Overall, the Chat Salon on May 10 was a blend of an engaging presentation, structured chat sessions and a reflection of community engagement and collaboration.

Topic: Interview work (Self & Other introduction)

今年度から、英語のおしゃべりに新しい試みを取り入れて、より楽しく、みんなが参加しやすい雰囲気づくりを心がけています。

4月のChat Salonでは、ブルネイについての興味深いShort Speechに加えて、初めてのブレークアウトセッションで参加者同士がペアになるアクティビティを実施しました。皆さんはお互いのことをもっと知るために質問し合い（好きなことを自由に聞ける、ちょっとしたインタビュー形式です）、10分後には同じテーブルの皆さんに相手のことを紹介し合いました。

 こういった新しい試みは初めてだったので、感想や、チャットをもっと盛り上げるアイデアがあれば、ぜひ教えてくださいね！

The April chat salon started on a lovely sunny day, and the cherry blossoms were still blooming beautifully around the city. It really felt like spring was in full swing.

This month, Aritomi-san, the new leader of the MIFA Chat Salon from April onwards, gave a short introduction. She talked about her vision and plans for the upcoming sessions.

For the monthly short speech, Momoka-san, a junior high school student, gave a wonderful presentation about the country of Brunei. She had lived there for some time when her father was working in the country. Even though she is young, her presentation was full of interesting information. She talked about the history, culture, people, food, education system, traditions, animals, and famous places of Brunei.

Brunei is a small country in Asia, located near Malaysia, with a population of around 500,000 people. I was surprised to hear that Tokyo’s population is about 28 times more than Brunei’s! One part I really enjoyed was learning about Brunei’s food. Momoka-san introduced dishes like Satay, Nasi Lemak Ayam, and Laksa. The cuisine is influenced by Malay and Chinese cooking. I’ve tried some of these dishes before, so I felt happy and a bit nostalgic seeing them in her slides.

She also shared her school life in Brunei, where she studied for about one and a half years. After her presentation, there was a short Q&A session. Some people asked how to correctly pronounce "Brunei," and others asked about fast food in the country. Momoka-san said there are many chain restaurants there, including even some Japanese ones!

For the chat session, we tried a new style this month. The first part was like an interview activity. Each table made pairs, and we interviewed each other. After that, we introduced our partners to the group. This was a fun way to make sure everyone got to speak and participate equally. In my group, I was asked questions about myself, my country, and our traditions. It was something different, but I enjoyed it!

In the second part of the chat session, we discussed why we joined the MIFA Chat Salon and what we expect from it. Many people said they don’t get many chances to speak English in their daily life, so this salon is a great opportunity to practice. Others said they want to meet new people and talk about different topics in English.

I feel the same! The Chat Salon is a wonderful place to improve English, learn new things—like we did about Brunei today—and connect with people from all over the world.
