2019/9/7 英語でおしゃべり　守谷市　活動報告
９月のshort speechは、英語でおしゃべりのスタッフの一人、高橋氏による、
スコットランドのお話でした。彼は、スコットランドに留学されていました。

Scotland is a part of “The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland” (The U.K)
The U.K. is known to be イギリス in Japan, but there is no such a country.  “England” is only a part of the U.K.
There are still various kinds of conflict between Scotland and England, and also among Scottish people themselves!  E.g. Ethnic (Scottish people are predominantly Celtic), Religion (We study in the World History Class!), Scottish Independence from the U.K.?, etc

What's Scotland is famous for
    Scottish Whisky: The taste of Single Molt Whisky varies across different regions where Whisky distillery is located. Each taste represents a unique characteristic of their brand.
    Nessie: A Mystic Dinosaur Monster “Nessie” in Loch Ness near Inverness (North Part of Scotland, Very beautiful city)
    Kilt: Some people may describe men wearing a skirt, but this traditional cloth is called "Kilt"; not skirt.

    David Hume, A Philosopher of the modern European Enlightenment
    Adam Smith, the father of economics

    Robert Burns, Famous Poet, Popular in Russia!

    Kin yi … ? (Can you … ?)
    Gonnae no dae that! (Don’t do that)
    It wisnae me (It wasn’t me)
    Giza pint! (Give a pint)
    Tottie (Potato: Nice girl)
    Ya daft! (You’re stupid!)

「英語でおしゃべり」に気楽に参加していただき、楽しんでいただければと思います。

３．内容
　（１）前半　10:00~11:00　

             Introduction、Time Table 等説明の後、Scotlandに留学された経験のある高橋 修さんの

　　　　　Short Speech　"About Scotland"を予定しております。ご期待下さい。

             その後は各テーブルで自己紹介、最近のTopicsやNews等自由にchatしましょう。
　 （２）Tea Break　11:00~11:10
　 （３）後半  11:10~12:00
　　　　9 月のTopicは「Tips to avoid the heat of this summer」です。

まだまだ暑い9月、暑さを乗り越えるヒントについて自由にchatしましょう。　　

    (4) Beginners Tableを準備していますのでご希望の方は受付時に申し出て
　　　　ください。

４．その他
　 （１）珈琲、紅茶等準備していますので専用のカップをご持参 いただければ幸
　　　　 いです。

2019/8/3英語でおしゃべり守谷市

MIFA Chat Salon　参加予定の皆様へ
厳しい暑さが続いておりますが、皆様いかがお過ごしですか。
８月のChat Salonは、ショートスピーチもトピックの設定もありません。
２時間、たっぷりとおしゃべりを楽しんでください。

皆さんのご参加をスタッフ一同、お待ちしております。

２．場所　MIFA　Training　Center　（Log House)３．内容　Free talking
　　　　　参加者の皆さまの自主性にお任せしますので任意のグループに分かれ、
　　　　　自由にchatしてください。　またグループ間も自由に移動し、多くの
　　　　　人たちと知り合いになっていただければと思います。
　　　　　なお。今回はBeginners Tableを準備しております。ご希望の方はご
　　　　　利用ください。

☆ 飲み物の用意はありません。 各自でご持参ください。（Log House内に自販機もあります。）

２０１９年３月に、守谷市の姉妹都市、アメリカのコロラド州グリーリー市に
守谷国際交流のメンバーが訪れた時のお話を、スタッフメンバーの鈴木亮子氏が
short speech されました。

Trip to Colorado



We, six members of MIFA left Japan for the U.S.A on the April 16^th. We visited Greeley, Moriya’s sister city in Colorado and it was one of the commemorative activities of MIFA’s 30^th anniversary. (Some members of MIFA have already visited the other sister city Meinburg last October. )

People in Greeley helped us a lot with providing many opportunities to meet and communicate with many citizens. We learned about the city and got to know each other well. Thanks to them, we all had a very good time.

Day 1 : The day we arrived at Greeley, they held a ceremony to welcome us. We met Mayor John Gates, Mr. Robb Casseday who is a City Councilor and many people who worked for our visit including the host families.

Greeley has been expanding (and becoming rich), they built a new city hall and a new fire department. Both were quite nice facilities.

Day 1 : The day we arrived at Greeley, they held a ceremony to welcome us. We met Mayor John Gates, Mr. Robb Casseday who is a City Councilor and many people who worked for our visit including the host families.

Greeley has been expanding (and becoming rich), they built a new city hall and a new fire department. Both were quite nice facilities.

Day 2 : We were supposed to visit University of Northern Colorado(UNC) and perform some Japanese culture there on World Language Day. But it was cancelled because threats to commit an act of violence in the Denver area had been made the previous day, almost of all schools were led to the closure. So, we took the tour of the university. Everything was quite different from that of Japan, we were very curious and enjoyed seeing it. 

Day 3 : We had a city tour. There is a nice big park in the center of downtown, Lincoln Park. Near the park, we saw a nice hotel. When I visited Greeley as a leader(chaperon) of sister city exchange program in 2016, it was under construction.

The walls of the buildings in downtown are painted by the artists.

The building of Weld County Court House stands with dignity and the inside’s decoration is so graceful. The Judge is the first Japanese American judge. His ancestor was from Okinawa.

Colorado Model Train Museum and Poudre Learning Center are worth to visit.

We had a party in the evening. Host families, past students who went to Moriya and Greeley-Moriya Sister City related people got together. Many tried to make Japanese tea, matcha. I think it must have been an interesting experience for them.

Day 4 : I left the group and went to Colorado Springs where I stayed for a year in 2001. At that time, I stayed with my friend, Margaret’s house and it was a great experience. I became friends with some people through her. I wanted to see her and some friends there. This time, one of Margaret’s friend invited me to Passover, the religious festival and holiday in memory of the escape of the Jews from Egypt. I actually took part in the ritual process and had some traditional food. It was very interesting experience.

Day 5: I was invited to another old friend’s house for Easter’s lunch. In the afternoon, we drove to Denver because my flight to Japan was scheduled to leave early in the morning on the next day. We stayed at another friend’s house in Denver.

I just stayed in Colorado Springs for 2 days so it was pretty busy trip. At the Denver International Airport, I saw a sign of “Tornado Shelter”. I followed the arrow signpost and found that the restroom was it!

 空港でトイレを探していたら、、、

 さすがアメリカ！？Tornade Shelter   があった、、？！そこが、トイレでした！
Toiletと書いてくれないと、ツーリストには、？？？ですね、、、。（笑）

Colorado is a very good place to visit, I always miss its beautiful scenery. I recommend you to visit not only our sister city Greeley but also other places in Colorado if you have a chance.

　　　　７月のTopicは「　What money means to you? 　(貴方にとってお金とは？）」です。 

そもそも「お金」ってなんなんだろう？日常の友、人生においてお金は切っても切れない関係のもの、

            お金に対する感謝の気持ちやなぜお金にまつわる問題がおこるのだろうか。
            自由にchatしましょう。
